Brits Spend 18 Months in the Bathroom

Brits will spend more than a year and a half in the bathroom during their lifetimes, according to new research from Bathstore, the UK's largest bathroom retailer.

Showering, teeth brushing and even going to the loo adds up to a staggering one year, seven months and 18 days during the average adult lifetime. And its women who spend the most time in the washroom - a month more of their life than a bloke's one year, six months and 15 days.

But guys do hog the bathroom when it comes to going to the loo - spending an hour and 45 minutes in the WC each week compared to the 85 minutes spent in there by women.

Lucy Nash from Bathstore said: "It's incredible how long we spend in the bathroom during our life span but it proves how important the room is in the home. Creating a relaxing, stylish, yet functional room is a must."

The poll, of 2,500 Brits, revealed that using the loo accounts for the biggest chunk of time spent in the bathroom - an average of one hour and 42 minutes a week or almost 92 days over a lifetime. Another hour and 25 minutes of each week is then spent in the bath or shower - a total of more than six months of your lifetime.

The average Brit then spends just under half an hour of each week - or 62 days in a lifetime - drying themselves off. To add to the massive total, cleaning your teeth takes almost 18 minutes a week and we spend 23 minutes washing our face. Hair removal then accounts for an extra 17 minutes.

Some spend even longer in the bathroom though; the poll found that 51 per cent of Brits spend almost five minutes applying moisturiser after each bath or shower and 36 per cent of girls spend seven minutes applying make-up.

Many people simply head to the bathroom for some peace and quiet as 43 per cent reckon it is the only place they get time to themselves. Another 39 per cent also retreat to the bathroom when they want to quietly think about things.
