Bathstore Burton
Bathstore in Burton On Trent have donated dozens of blue Bathstore ducks to raise money for four town charities. The Burton Lions Club drew in the flocks while selling tickets for a duck race on Sunday, in Coopers Square shopping centre, Burton.
The Lions sold 60 tickets for a charity duck race which will take place at the Lion's Spring Fair being held on Monday, May 25, in Stapenhill Gardens, Main Street, Stapenhill.
The ducks were priced at £2 with the winning duck on the day bagging its owner a £500 prize with the rest of the money that is accumulated through the ticket sales being donated to charity.
Burton Lions president Roy Waterland said: "It was a very good day. People were very interested in knowing what we were selling the ducks for.
"It's all for charity and it should be a good day out on Bank Holiday Monday."
The Lions will be holding their next duck race all day on Saturday, March 28, in Burton Place shopping centre.

Bathstore VAT Savings
VAT savings now at Bathstore
Bathstore are pleased to pass on the VAT reduction announced this week to you our valued customers. There is no need to wait and the saving is made as soon as you add a product to your basket or place an order in store.
From Monday 1st December 2008, the rate of VAT charged on products sold in the UK will be reduced from 17.5% to 15%. With immediate effect, we are passing these savings on to you by reducing our prices to reflect the forthcoming change in VAT. This applies both on our website and in all our Bathstore stores.
How does this affect you?
All prices currently displayed include VAT at 17.5%. These prices will be discounted at the checkout to be equivalent to the new 15% VAT prices. This means a discount of 2.13% on the displayed price.
Why is this discount 2.13% and not 2.5%?
The example below illustrates how the 2.13% discount is calculated:
Current ticket price includes VAT at 17.5%
On a product that sells for £100 the VAT FREE price is £85.11
To calculate the new price including VAT at 15% we must add 15% to the VAT FREE price of £85.11, which equals £97.87.
Therefore the old price of £100 less the new price of £97.87 results in a saving of £2.13 or 2.13%.

Bathstore Helps Raise £52,000 for Hospice
Bathstore has helped to raise £52,000 (£52,719.55 to be exact!) for the Princess Alice Hospice from the inaugural Princess Alice Hospice Midnight Walk held at the weekend.
Bathstore were one of the main sponsors of the event which attracted 300 people to walk the 13.1 mile course which passed through Richmond, Twickenham and Kew and was held in memory of loved ones who received care at the hospice. The walk was held on Saturday 6th September 2008 and was open to everyone over the age of 14 and proved to be a huge success as families took part together.
Event partner Pools on the Park, Richmond Pools on the Park, Old Deer Park Richmond TW9 2SF ensured everyone was in the mood as a member of staff donned a bright blue wig to lead the warm-up sessions. The swimming centre has also very kindly donated one free swim for every participant.
Along the route, walkers were encouraged by a dedicated band of volunteer marshals who handed out bananas and chocolate and cheered them to the finishing line where a well-deserved breakfast awaited.
Bathstore's Blue Ducks Break World Record
The Bathstore sponsored Great British Duck Race has broken the World Record for the Largest Charity Duck Race. The event raised more than £100,000 for charity and broke the record set last year, when 165,000 were raced down stream. This year there were more than 250,000 Bathstore ducks floating down the one kilometre stretch of water near Hampton Court Palace.
In previous years the Great British Duck Race has turned the water yellow, but this year’s World Record breaking race was sponsored by the Bathstore and to mark their support blue rubber ducks were used. The 175,000 blue Bathstore Ducks set sail from Molesey Lock and took between two and three hours to reach their destination, the Sherriff Boat Club at Albany Reach.
The event raised money for over 650 UK charities with the three lead charities being WaterAid, The Down’s Syndrome Association and NSPCC. Every duck will be recycled after the race. Public attendance on the day was in the region of 3,000.
Molesey Rowing Club’s Olympic Gold Medallist Rower Andy Hodge, who served as the official starter, along with patrons of The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA), actress Emma Barton, who plays Honey in Eastenders and England and London Irish rugby player Shane Geraghty launched this year’s World Record Breaking Charity event.
Each duck cost £2 to enter in to the race, with the owner of the first past the finishing line at the Sheriff Boat Club at Albany Reach receiving a £10,000 first prize.
In 1992, 29,000 rubber ducks fell overboard from a boat in the Pacific Ocean and floated around the world for more than 15 years.
